Angie Crabtree (b. 1987, lives and works in Los Angeles) is an artist from California. Her work uses precious gemstones as a means to unpack the psychology and allure of luxury. Created in oil on panel, she paints each piece like a portrait, after studying the real diamond. Gemstones come from nature and are then recut by human hands — this collaboration between human and nature yields what society collectively agrees on as some of our most valuable objects. These bright, facet shaped paintings present nuances of real gemstones, with soft gradients and bold colors.
